Charizard has been an iconic Pokemon since the series’ roots. Evolving from one of the three starter Pokemon, many trainers found themselves with the winged dragon-esque Pokemon in their 6 man team right away. Despite being around from the beginning, Charizard has seen some changes as the franchise has progressed.
Starting off as a pure fire type Pokemon, it was unable to utilize Fly or any other flying type moves despite having gigantic wings. This has been corrected since then by making him a Fire/Flying type Pokemon, but the dragon form has never been taken advantage of until now.
Pokemon X and Y is set for release on October 12th and will be offering up Mega Evolutions as a new way to play. Depending on which stone you give Charizard to hold, Charizardite X or Charizardite Y, Charizard will temporarily Mega evolve into one of two forms.
Mega Charizard X will become a fire and dragon type Pokemon with a gray body and the ability to breathe blue flames. It will also have the special ability Tough Claws, boosting physical attacks and see its attack stat increase.
Mega Charizard Y will remain as a fire and flying type Pokemon, but see its special attack drastically increase and have the special ability, Drought. This will further power up its fire attack moves including Blast Burn.
